Wednesday with a note about hosting with Dreamhost...

I'm doing webwork this morning, and setting up some databases and such on my account, I am reminded to... er... remind people: my host (Dreamhost) has an affiliate program!

If you've decided to sign up with a new webhost and choose to go with Dreamhost, I'd love it if you'd list me as your referrer! Anything I earn via this program goes to host projects like Sketch Fest and Portrait Adoption, and to keep my domains registered and it really does help my bottom line. You can list my email (ellen AT ellenmilliongraphics.com) as your referrer, or use this link, if you would like to set up new webhosting. (They've also got a special deal going on now where if I refer 3 people before the end of the month, I'll get a bonus, so the timing seemed right for a plug!)

If you'd prefer, you can donate directly to my hosting - these donations do not come to me as cash, but are applied directly to my hosting bill:

Donate towards my web hosting bill!

(Standard donations through the Sketch Fest site count towards web programming improvements... all hosting costs still come out of my pocket.)

How happy am I with Dreamhost? They aren't perfect - I'd rate them at 80-90%. They've dropped the ball a few times, they occasionally have outages, they haven't always been reliable in one way or another. But, they are really cheap for what you get, more reliable than any of the other services I tried, their customer service is fast and super friendly, and they have gone above and beyond what they had to do for me enough times that it comes out positive in the balance sheet. I am not a straight-forward customer, and they've been accommodating to me. They DO have CPU caps that are a little wishy-washy, but running the rather intensive Sketch Fests hasn't so much as pinged on their radar, so they can't be all that restrictive. (I did run into those caps several years ago, but it was with a busted CGI script that was doing backflips and loops, and they were willing to work with me to get it fixed and back onto a good server.) I've been with them for 12 years now.

Alright, done with the schilling. Back to work with me!
